Green Baby Shower, Huntington Beach, CA

The event was co-hosted by Karen Wynn (High-Profile Event Planning Specialist), Elizabeth Espinosa (Emmy Award-Winning News Reporter for the
KTLA Morning Show) and Kelly Vlahakis-Hanks (Vice-President, Media Relations
for Earth Friendly Products).

The guest of Honor and expecting mom, Andrea Marisol Sulsona, is a “Green” Realtor for Keller Williams. Keller Williams Realty Inc.,  an international real

estate company with more than 600 offices located across the United

States and Canada.  You can check out her blog on GOING GREEN AT HOME.

The hosts set out to promote environmental stewardship, and adhered to several

“green” guidelines when throwing the baby shower:

  1. The Invitations were printed on recycled content using soy-based inks instead of the standard petroleum-based ones. As quoted by the United Soybean Board and the National Soy Ink Information Center, “Using soy ink helps the nation’s economy by providing a market for a domestic crop while diminishing dependence on foreign resources such as petroleum oil.”
  2. The event took place at the “Green Home” owned by co-host Kelly Vlahakis-Hanks and her husband Eric. The Hanks’ home was designed and remodeled by RevDesign, a LEED-EB Certified Architectural firm that adhered to many of the LEED requirements including, using paints with low VOCs, installing a Stainless Steel Front Door from Neoporte (US Green Building Certified), and installing Energy Star Rated appliances, low-flow toilets, CFL lighting, etc.
  3. The venue was cleaned and organized using only Earth Friendly Products’ cleaning supplies and paper items.  Earth Friendly Products is the leader in environmentally friendly cleaning supplies for household and commercial use with over 150 products of only replenishable and sustainable plant-based ingredients that are safe for people, pets and the planet.
  4. The Cleaning Company used to set up, and clean up after the event, is Green Clean LA.
  5. All floral arrangements were made by Christine Saunders, a local green florist who used VeriFlora Certified label flowers, guarantying that the plants were grown in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
  6. The fabulous food, served to the guests, was created by Maria Foscari, an eco-friendly caterer who buys all her organic fare from local producers.
  7. The guests were encouraged to carpool to reduce their Carbon Footprint. Carpooling reduces pollution and carbon dioxide.
  8. All candles used for the event were soy-based versus the standard petroleum-ones (USA TODAY wrote that the EPA recommends against burning petroleum-based candles due to Invisible Emissions and Black Soot).
  9. i’m eco friendly™ was proud to make all Gift Bags handed to the guests!
  10. Our reusable i’m eco friendly™ totes were filled with various green items including a set of AVEEDA body products, Kathy Arnos’ Complete Teething Guide & Earth Friendly Products’ “Randomness of Six Kit” containing 6 samples of award-winning Green Cleaning Products as well as ECOS Baby laundry Detergent.

This event was covered in a few different publications, including the fall issue of Coast Kids, the Long Beach/South Bay Home Improvement and Southern California Spaces.
